500 Benefit From JCI Free Medical Outreach In Rivers

Over 500 persons have
benefitted from the last lap of Free Medical Outreach Programme Organised by the Port Harcourt Metro of the Junior Chamber International (JCI).
The programme which was held between Saturday and Sunday at Saint Andrews Anglican Church, Rumuobiakani, Opposite Shell Industrial Area in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State witnessed large turn out of beneficiaries.
The programme with the theme: “Eliminating Diabetes in our society” organised by JCI in partnership with Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), and Hammer Home the Glucose Organisation, an NGO which provides succcour for hopeless diabetics.
The Tide reports that the programme featured free blood sugar tests, free Insulin and free deworming of children as well as health lectures.
Dr. Nwaokoro Joakin Chidozie of Harmmer Home the Glucose Organisation, described diabetes as a house hold challenge in Nigeria and attributed the spread to gene and lifestyle.
The medical practitioner stressed on the need for regular test and self disciplined in the consumption of food with wholesome sugar.
He also advised that people should take physical exercise serious as a well of keeping the body strong and fit.
On her own part, the nurse who represented SPDC, Josephine Uadya, stressed the need for regular deworming of children, she said the children should be deformed every three months, remarking that activities of children and some of the food they take promote worm infection. She also urged beneficiaries to take the issue of personal hygiene seriously as a way of checking infection.
The President of JCI, Port Harcourt Metro, Ambasssador  Ony-inyechukwu  Mbeledogu, said the chamber takes the issue of the medical well-being of the people serious hence its interest in free medical programme and commended SPDC and Hummer Home the Glucose Organisation for their strong support which made the programme as success.
