27 N’Deltans Produce Fire-Resistant Oil Industry Work Wears
No fewer than 27 youth of the Niger Delta region have graduated from Shell-sponsored training on local production of fire-resistant cover-a;; and other work wears for the oil and gas industry.
The graduands were officially issued certificate at the ground-breaking ceremony for the local [production of KGL work wears held at Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, last week.
The General Manager, Sustainable Development and Community Relations of Shell, Mr Igo Weli, said the initiative was part of the company’s commitment to the development of Nigerian content.
He said the journey to produce such special work wears locally had started for years but that the company was looking for the right orgainsation until it found Kay Global Limited.
Weli commended the management of Kay Global and the graduands, as he noted also that production of fire-resistant cover-all in country and training of Niger Delta youth on its production provide employment to the people, and also attract investors to Igwuruta where the company operates.
The general manager called on the community people and relevant groups to support the success so far recorded and reiterated the need to comply with local content laws.
He chairman and CEO of Kay Global Limited, Mr Alabaja Kayode, said the products are the first of its kind in West African subregion, and commended Shell for the partnership.
He said about 10 of the graduands have been given automatic employment by his company.
Kayode, who regretted that virtually all materials used in making the special workwears are imported called on the federal government to iniate favourable policies that could encourage local manufacturers.
