Union Denies Membership Of NLC Faction
The leadership of the
National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has denied joining the Comrade Joe Ajaero-led Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) faction.
A statement last Wednesday by the union’s national president, Comrade Sani Suleiman, said that Ajaero’s claims n the 20th March, 2015 in Lagos that the national treasurer of the union, Comrade Comfort Oko, was elected at the special delegates conference held in Lagos as NLC Ex-officio was a lie and untrue.
Suleima said the Union never participated in the Ajaero-led factional NLC delegates conference, rather insisted that NAAT remain with the main NLC under the elected leadership of Comrade Ayuba Wabba.
The NAAT boss said that the leadership of the union had considered it appropriate to sue the factionalised Nigeria Labour Congress for claiming its National Treasurer was a participant at the Lagos special delegates conference.
The union leader further insisted that NAAT and its members had nothing to do with the Comrade Ajaero’s NLC faction, stressing that the union unequivocally dissociates NAAT from the self-styled factional group.
The NAAT President declared that the only delegates’ conference it was aware of and fully participated in was the rescheduled NLC 11th Delegates Conference which held on Thursday 12th March, 2015 at Eagle Square, Abuja, where Comrade Comfort Oko was elected unopposed as an Ex-officio member of the National Administrative Council (NAC) of the NLC, one of the organs recognisd by the NLC constitution.
Suleima, said the union therefore demanded an unreserved apology from Comrade Joe Ajaero and his NLC factional cohorts.
The union has also urged President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to revive the ailing laboratories and equipment in universities across the country.
NAAT is one of the affiliate unions of NLC. The union is an umbrella body of technologists in tertiary educational institutions that include universities, polytechnics and college of education across Nigeria.
