TUC Urges Buhari To Address Workers’ Plight

gress (TUC) last Wednesday urged the President-elect, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to address the plight of workers in the country.
The congress appealed to Buhari to employ his disciplinary tact to stamp out corruption in the civil service.
The Chairman of TUC in Anambra State,  Mr Ifeanyi Okechukwu, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Awka.
Okechukwu said the civil service needed to be purged of corruption to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
Besides, he urged Buhari to harmonise workers salary and unify the national minimum wage.
The labour leader also called on the president-elect to make the National Housing Fund useful and beneficial to civil servants and other Nigerians.
“Knowing Buhari as a disciplinarian, I believe he will use his wealth of experience in solving the minimum wage issue which the Federal Government has asked states to discuss with their respective workforce.
“Buhari should make it holistic in nature by withdrawing workers salaries from source before it gets to the states that refuses to pay, for it is no longer minimum wage if it is for states to go and discuss leaving us at the mercy of some impious governors,” he said.
Okechukwu further appealed to Buhari to address the workers housing scheme to enable them own houses after service to the nation.
The TUC also urged the incoming administration to stop impunity in all sectors of national life.
“Civil servants in some states live like slaves, how can they own houses of their own, even in the federal level, the National Housing Fund (NHF) is not transparent for workers to assess it and build houses of their own.
“It is God at work that made it possible for Buhari to succeed this time around so as to put a stop to impunity being done by politicians by their ostentatious way of living in this hard times,” he said.
