The Publicity Secretary of
All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-East, Mr Osita Okechukwu, has said that the zone will be one of the greatest beneficiaries of the party’s administration.
Speaking with newsmen in Enugu on Wednesday, Okechukwu said that his optimism stemmed from his belief that Gen. Muhammed Buhari’s administration would be anchored on transparency and competition.
The spokesman said that commentaries from some quarters that the South-East would be in the doldrums having not fully supported the ambition of the president-elect were unfortunate.
”The South-East, being as enterprising zone, stands to gain more from the incoming administration.
“The APC-led government will encourage transparency and engender competition among Nigerians to provide an equal platform for the people to excel,” he said.
Okechukwu said that the period for people to thrive in “patronage politics” had gone, adding that the zone would no longer be deceived by ‘food is ready’ politicians.
“What we need is a government that will do projects to favour the people and not the one that empowers families and individuals,” he said.
Okechukwu, who was also the Campaign Coordinator of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation in Enugu, said that the award of contract for the second Niger Bridge would be reviewed by the government.
He said that the structure and site of the bridge, as approved by the current administration, was not acceptable to the people of the area.
“We have to review the project in terms of where to site it and to ensure that it has no form of toll gate,” Okechukwu said.
