Scrabble Association Calls For Academies

State Scrabble Association Solomon Alao, has called for the establishment of scrabble academies across the state to assist in the discovery and promotion of young talents.
Alao told newsmen in Lagos that the establishment of the academy was necessary for the growth of the sport at grassroots.
He said such academy would assist the association to discover and educate intending players on the rules and ethics of the sport.
“We need a scrabble academy, if possible, one in each of the local government area of the state.
“This is necessary because many would-be young players are not knowledgeable about the game, we need to discover them early and expose them to the rudiments of the game at early stage.
“Early knowledge of the game is important  because when the players are familiar with what is obtainable early, they will be able to withstand their colleagues in any competition,’’ he said.
The chairman was optimistic that a good foundation for upcoming scrabble players would produce proficient athletes that would pave way for the sport to grow.
According to him, when established handlers of scrabble academy in secondary schools should incorporate the normal school curriculum into players’ academic calendar.
“This will prevent the academy from losing some of its potential players,’’ he said.
Alao noted that talented scrabble players were available nationwide, “setting up academy would not only discover hiding ones, but would also nurture them to stardom’’.
