Police Teargas Women In Port Harcourt
Some policemen at
tached to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Monday teargased protesting women wing of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who were protesting the alleged rigging of the presidential and national elections in the state.
The protesters carried some placards bearing inscriptions such as “Rivers REC of INEC must go” “No result sheets in Rivers State”. “Prof Jega, please we want to vote in Rivers”, “women say no to rigging” INEC in Rivers State PDP”.
The protest took off at 8.40am from the St. John’s Campus of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Aba Road.
The leader of the protesting women, led by Commissioner for Women in the state, Mrs Joeba West, Mrs Vikki Nyeche and former Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council boss, Mrs Maureen Tamuno called the cancelation of the Saturdays elections in the state. They further demanded the immediate transfer of the Resident Electoral Commission in the state, Dame Gesila Khan for compromising as well as taken side with the PDP.
Effort to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Mohammed Ahmad proved abortive as he did not return calls put across to his line by our crime correspondent.
