NUPENG Calls For Passage Of PIB Bill
The Nigeria Union of
Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has called for the quick passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
Speaking to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday, the union’s National President, Comrade Achese Igwe, said that the union expects, the quick passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) which has been in the National Assembly for four years now.
Achese stressed that the PIB if not passed by the current National Assembly, the rehabilitation of the nation’s four refineries to make them work optimally and building of new refineries in order to reduce the massive importation of petroleum products would not be realistic.
The NUPENG President commended Nigerians for their orderly conduct during the just-concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.
He stated that the union believes the president-elect will bring his past leadership experience to bear in moving the nation forward.
He said the union commends General Muhammadu Buhari for his resilience and patience and wants him to settle down and address the nagging challenges bedeviling the oil and gas sector.
The union leader said the other challenges the union expects Buhari to address in the oil and gas section are the issues of out sourcing and casualisation of workers in the industry, stressing that the union believes that if these issues are addressed, there will be job creation in the oil and gas industry.
