Man, 23, Docked Over Assault On Brother’s Wife
A 23-year-old man,
Joseph Obabiyi, was on Friday charged before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly assaulting his brother’s wife.
Obabiyi, who resides at No. 27 Ilogbo-Awela St., in Ota, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and causing breach of peace.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Lydia Omatahunde, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 14 at about 7:00 a.m. at Onibuku in Ota.
Omatahunde said that the accused conducted himself in a manner that was likely to cause breach of peace by assaulting his brother’s wife, Mrs Nike Ogabi.
‘’The accused beat up the complainant and used stick to inflict injury on her body,’’ she said.
Omatahunde said that the accused contravened Sections 249 and 351 of the Criminal Code, Revised Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr Folarin Iroko, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in the like sum.
Iroko said the surety must reside within the magisterial district and swear affidavit of means as part of the bail conditions.
He said that the surety should provide tax clearance payment in the last one year.
The case was adjourned till May 6 for hearing.
