Members of sixteen political parties demanding the removal of the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State, Gesila Khan in Abuja, yesterday

All those involved in the brutal killing of supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers State during the electioneering period will face the full weight of the law. Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has said.
Amaechi made the disclosure Easter Monday when he paid a condolence visit on the families of late Chief Christopher Adube in Obirikom, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni local government area of the state.
Chief Adube, alongside three of his children, his younger brother, lyke Ikechukwu and his two gatemen were shot dead last Friday in his Obirikom residence while two of his children who were wounded  by bullet shots are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Amaechi assured the bereaved family that his administration will fish out the killers and prosecute them accordingly.
“All those responsible for this bloody act will pay for it. This kind of killing of APC supporters has gone beyond political violence. Why should politicians go beyond politicking and try to take any body’s life? They will pay for this, I promise to fish out the culprits”, he assured.
Earlier, on his door to door sensitization tour to wards in Khana Local Government Area, Amaechi assured that votes for April 11 guber elections in the state will count at every polling unit.
While addressing crowds of APC supporters in Bani, Bean Ken-Khana, Kaani-Babee, Nwiyakara, Kono-Boue, Uegwere-Boue, Zaakpor, Kaani and Opu-oko communities, Amaechi frowned at the electoral fraud and rigging of the last Presidential election results by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and warned that any criminally minded person who attempts to deprive Rivers people from exercising their legitimate franchise will be made to face the full weight of the law.
According to him, “We are all eye witnesses to what happened during the last presidential election where the Peoples Democratic Party carried out electoral fraud with INEC officers and the Police. But now, the police or the military will not harass you again. I came to thank you all for refusing to vote without result sheets last Saturday (28th March). I called one of my friends in the Army and cautioned him about the last election and the victory of Buhari, he told me on phone that, “Sir, Parade has changed gear”.
What it means is that, supporters of APC will no longer be molested and harassed by the police or the military. Everybody can come out and exercise their franchise. Ensure that, your party agents are at every polling unit, at least 50 persons per unit, wait after accreditation and voting before allowing the party agents to follow the results to the collection centres. Our votes for the guber election will count at the polling units and recorded in the result sheets”, Amaechi said.
The state chief executive also urged Rivers people and the people of Khana in particular to massively turn out for the guber elections this Saturday and vote for the governorship flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress, Dr. Dakuku Adol-Peterside.
“Even if the PDP stole our votes and our mandate last Presidential election, they have agreed to behave this time around. You have a duty to come out enmass, don’t go to farm on Saturday, it is set aside for you to come out and vote the candidate of your choice. We will all vote for APC and ensure Dakuku becomes our governor”, Amaechi stated.
Amaechi who also doubles as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, advised decampees from the PDP to APC to join the party and increase the votes for the APC guber candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, adding that, it was the only meaningful means of bringing the federal government closer to the state to increase the pace of development after May 29th, 2015.
“I came to seek your votes for the Gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections. Tell your brothers and sisters in PDP who are willing to decamp or has decamped to APC to remain steadfast. They should join us to increase the votes of APC. If we come together and vote Dakuku and our Lawmakers on the platform of APC, when Buhari assumes office in May 29th, 2015, we expect the pace of development in Rivers State to also increase”, Amaechi explained.
Meanwhile, with the baton of leadership about to change at the centre in Nigeria, Rivers State Governor and Director-General of Buhari Campaign Organisation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has predicted peaceful co-existence between the police and the people, saying there would be no more police brutality or molestation in the state.
He stated this while interacting with APC supporters during his Ward to Ward campaign in Emohua and Ikwerre local government areas of the state at the weekend.
He also urged the people to vote for APC Governorship candidate in the state Dr. Dakuku Peterside,  for the April 11 gubernatorial polls.
Amaechi said: “Next week Saturday, I expect everybody to come out and vote. There will be no police molestation again. There will be no army harassment again. Any Police that molests you must be preparing to retire and this time, it will not be retirement, it will be punishment for retirement, so come out to vote. We are looking for you to come out to vote.
“The reason why I am running from ward to ward is to encourage you to come out because after what the police and the army did last time, everybody will be afraid to come out. Saturday, we should all come out to vote and as your governor, I urge you to vote for APC”.
He said: “For the police, we believe that by now they must have learnt their lesson. We believe that by now, they must have known that they were politicians and not Nigerian police. This Saturday, we expect them to be Nigerian Police and not Nigerian politicians”.
While in Emohua, the governor campaigned in Ogbakiri, Ibaa, Obele, Rumuewhor Odegu and Elele.
Also speaking to APC supporters in Ikwerre Local Government Area, particularly in Igwuruta, Ipo, Omademe, Ozuaha, Omuanwa, Isiokpo, Omagwa and Aluu, Amaechi told the people to vote APC all the way.
Amaechi said that Buhari’s administration will usher people-oriented policies, programmes and projects, and genuine democratic ideals that will bring the desired change.
According to him, “It is important that we all must come out to vote this time around, so that we can stop the PDP from writing election results for us. You cannot sit at home and win election, so, all of us must come out and vote for APC. APC party agents, this time around must take their duties seriously. All of us saw how the APC Presidential Candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari won the election.
We in Rivers State have a commitment to reflect our votes for Dr. Dakuku Peterside, so, we can carry on with development.
We still have many roads to complete. The flyover at Rukpokwu, will be completed. If we vote in APC, Dakuku as our Governor, we will indeed have closer ties with the federal government, and I assure you industries and other developmental projects will be attracted to Rivers State. That is why we must all come out enmass to vote for APC in the upcoming Saturday guber and state Assembly elections. There are so many opportunities to benefit from if you vote APC. This is our opportunity and we can’t afford to miss it”, Amaechi said.
The governor also tasked women and youth of the All Progressives Congress to resist any attempt by the PDP to rig the April 11 general elections in the state.
“From today, women and youths will have to work until the guber and state Assembly elections are over. I can give you an example of what happened in Bauchi State, where youths and hunters took the decision to protect their votes from the polling units to the INEC office, until the votes were counted and declared.
Here, our mothers and women, should protect our votes from 7.am at the polling units, until after voting and results are declared at the polling units. Please, don’t leave your polling units. The security agents are at polling units to protect you, don’t be scared of any arrest, exercise your franchise without fear”, Amaechi noted.
Governor Amaechi also during the tour paid a condolence visit on late Ikechi Dimkpa’s family at Ipo community who was gunned down by suspected PDP thugs during the just concluded presidential elections in the area.
He promised to give assistance and support the family of the bereaved.
