inec Urges Politicians To Stop Falsehood

tional Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged politicians in Rivers State to shun rumour mongering as it could lead to violence even as it says it was ready for the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state
The Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dame Gasila Khan, who stated this on Tuesday, at the commissions head office in Port Harcourt during the distribution of sensitive materials noted that falsehood does not help society but rather causes violence.
According to her,’’ her office is open and members of the public could come in and make enquiries and not to cause confusions and problems by misinforming the people. INEC is here to serve the public and not one individual’’.
Meanwhile, representatives of the political parties in the state and stakeholders have hailed the electoral body for the level of preparedness for the Saturdays governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
The parties which includes, The All Progressive Congress (APC), the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), the Labour Party (LP) and other parties said the process of distribution of sensitive materials was peaceful and orderly but urged the body to be fair to all parites.
The parties told The Tide that their agents had inspected  the sensitive materials which include result sheets, and confirmed that they were in good condition.
The APC was represented by Dr Lawrence Chukwu while PDP was represented by Felix Obuah.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Hanza Khama, said the police would continue to be neutral to all political parties ahead of Saturday’s elections as it announced the restriction of movement of people from Friday midnight.
