Idoko Wants Nigerian League Aligned With World Calendar
Mike Idoko, Chairman, Technical Committee on Continental Matches for Kano Pillars, has said that the Nigerian League needed to be aligned with the world football calendar.
Idoko told newsmen in Akure that the early exit of Nigerian clubs at the continental championships in 2015 was due to our domestic league calendar.
He noted that Kano Pillars played against a Moroccan side, Moghreb Tetouane, that had already been in week 17 of its league season.
Kano Pillars lost 5-2 on aggregate.
All the country’s representatives had crashed out of continental football competitions, except Warri Wolves, which is still playing in the Confederation Cup.
Idoko, however, commended the League Management Company (LMC) for organising the Super Six, to prepare the teams going for continental football.
“It is a challenge, we have to align our football with the world calendar. Pillars played against a team that was already in week 17 of their league season.
“The LMC has been trying to improve our league, but it was not enough for the teams to have an impressive run in the competitions,’’ he said.
The former General Manager of the Ondo State Football Agency noted that the North African teams were good in the politics of the game.
