Election: Passengers Besiege Various Motor Parks In PH
Scores of passengers
travelling out of Port Harcourt besieged the various motor parks on Friday to board vehicles to their various homes and participate in the Presidential and National Assembly elections which took place over the weekend.
The Passengers, who were in their numbers, were seen struggling and rushing to board vehicles at the parks as early as 7 O’clock in the morning till late in the evening.
Some of the passengers who expressed dismay over the situation said it is not worth it suffering this kind of struggling, but that they could not do otherwise than to join their kitts and kin in exercising their civic responsibilities of choosing their political leaders in the country.
They said although, some of the politicians would not know them when they get into office, but that they have to travel home as others to vote for candidates of their choice, and thanked the co-ordinators of the parks for not increasing the fares despite the crowd and the fuel scarcity in the state.
Mrs Piriye Isele Patrick, a passenger travelling to Bayelsa State said, “I have no option than to travel to my state and exercise my franchise as a true citizen of Nigeria”.
Patrick however noted with pleasure that the transport fare was still N1,200, which she could afford to reach her state and join others in the all important exercise, and lauded the transporters for maintaining the fares.
Another passenger, Solomon Nwoye, who was travelling to Ahoada also noted with pleasure the steady transport fare, as he was travelling home to take part in the Presidential and National Assembly Polls.
Also speaking with our correspondent, the Manager of Niger Delta Link, Ugorji Williams, confirmed that they have a berage of passengers at their loading base waiting for vehicles as most of their vehicles that travelled to Bori in Khana Local Government Area could not come back immediately because of hold-up on the road.
Williams said they were able to contain their passengers as some other vehicles came and conveyed their passengers to Bori, who were going for the elections.
