Don’t Transplant Cocoa Seedlings Now, Agriculturist Tells Farmers

In spite of the onset of the
rainy  season, cocoa farmers in the South-West have been advised not to rush to transplant  “baby cocoa’’ trees.
Mr James Olawale, an agriculturist, who gave the advice, said farmers should wait for the ground to be wet enough before transplanting cocoa seedlings.
Olawale, who spoke in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Ijesa-Isu, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, also advised farmers to expand their farming activities.
He stressed that the current global fall in the price of oil made it necessary for the expansion of the agricultural sector.
Olawale urged farmers to do away with old varieties of crops and embrace high yield varieties that would boost their production.
