A member of the board of
the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), Olakintan De Souza, on Tuesday told referees to shun biased officiating.
De Souza, a former Technical Director of the NJF told newsmen in Lagos that biased officiating could contribute to morale killing of athletes.
He said that sporting activities should not be reduced to a win-at-all cost situation.
“When officiating is not based on right judgment or precise in decision making it will kill the morale of athletes and the game.
“But the referees are improving. Honestly speaking, the only thing is that if they want to do the right thing they know how to do it.
“But at times, they just want to be biased about officiating, which is not right.
“It is not good to kill the morale of players, especially when favoring a particular state or team.
“Most times, the officials also add to poor judgment by changing the rules of the sport to suit their purpose.
“Referees who   go about such acts should desist because they are also killing the sport by their action, especially when they are trying to protect their interests.’’
He advised referees not to be slanted in their judgment.
