Army Arrest Political Thugs With Arms In PH

2 Brigade Port Harcourt Rivers State says its mop-up operations in the state and its environs has led to the arrest of suspected political thugs brandishing arms in the state.
The command also said that the operations  were on-going across the state and will ensure the recovery of illegal arms in the state.
The Commander, 2 Brigade Port Harcourt, Brig-General Koko Essien stated this in Port Harcourt recently while briefing newsmen on the success of the operation in the state.
Brig-Gen Essien disclosed that during the exercise, the command arrested six persons suspected to be political thugs adding that the operation took  place in Ahoada East,  Emohua and Asari-Toru local government areas respectively.
Represented by the Brigade’s commanding officer, intelligence group, Lt Col Bayo Lawal, the commander said operation to mop up arms and ammunitions was the command’s responsibility.
“On April 10, we got information of stock pile of weapons at Samroyal Hotel in Ahoada East of which soldiers carried out a cordon and search operation on the hotel with discoveries. Two suspects names withheld were arrested at the hotel with two pump action guns, 41 machetes, 55 cartridges and with the sum of N300,000.
“We also arrested two suspects with five Ak 47 riffles, magazines, 41 rounds of 7-62 mm  special live ammunition” we were able to restore law and order at Buguma and Asari Toru LGA which witnessed deadly violent attacks by political thugs during the election.
The commander, however said, the suspects, while fleeing from soldiers, dumped their arms in the river adding that efforts are on to arrest them and recover the weapons.
