APC Boycotts Rescheduled Assembly Polls In Rivers
All the candidates of the
All Progressives Congress (APC) for the State Assembly in the six constituencies in Rivers State, where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rescheduled election for last week Saturday boycotted the exercise.
Hon Chidi Llyod who spoke on behalf of the aggrieved candidates also disclosed that they had earlier obtained a court injunction restraining INEC from conducting the rescheduled election in the six local government areas.
Hon. Llyod, who is currently the lawmaker representing Emohua Constituency, listed many reasons for the boycott, amongst which was that they have lost confidence in the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dame Gesila Khan to conduct a free and fair election in the state.
The lawmaker also alleged that there was no official communication by INEC to APC candidates and their party about the rescheduled elections. The APC candidates, who quoted the reference numbers of the court injunction they obtained from the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt on Friday, said that all the relevant parties in the case have been duly served.
The Tide learnt that the rescheduled state Assembly poll was conducted last Saturday despite the APC boycott.
The constituencies where INEC conducted the re-scheduled election were Emohua; Etche I, Etche II, Ahoada East I, Ahoada East II and Opobo/Nkoro.
