The Awka Diocese of
the Anglican Church has inaugurated a multi-million naira microfinance bank in the Anambra State capital.
According to report, the bank was established in collaboration with the United Bank for Africa (UBA).
Inaugurating the bank, the Primate of the Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, called for an efficient workforce for bank to succeed.
Okoh cautioned its management against employing relations and friends to man the bank so as to achieve its set goals.
“This bank should make a statement by being manned by competent personnel and not employees that will be recruited based on relation ties or friendship.
“For in so doing, the bank will go a long way in the height it will attain,” he said.
In his remarks, the Anglican Bishop of Awka, Rt. Rev. Alexander Ibezim, urged the Anglican faithful and people of the state to patronise the bank by buying shares and transacting other businesses with it.
“I am calling on the Anglican faithful in the diocese as well as residents of the state to join in making the bank great by opening an account with it as well as doing other financial busineses in the bank,” he said.
The bishop said the bank would create job opportunities for the youth in the state and also contribute to the development of the state.
In a message to the event, the Executive Director of UBA, Mr Casmir Molokwu, represented by Mr Dan Okeke, said the UBA would partner with the church to strengthen the bank.
“We in the UBA saw this bank going ahead of other micro-finance banks in the country based on what is on ground.
“We donated the three ATM machines in the bank and we are also embarking on training of the staff to man the bank for efficient and effective management,” he said.
