The Independent Na
tional Electoral Commission (INEC) said it had concluded preparations to conduct free, fair and credible House of Assembly election in Anambra on Saturday.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mr Edwin Nwatarali, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Awka.
He said that sensitive materials for the election had been dispatched to the local government areas, and would be distributed to the 4,608 polling units in the state on Friday.
“This will help to forestall late arrival of workers and electoral materials,” he explained.
Nwatarali said that the commission had evaluated the processes of March 28 elections and had noted the lapses, which it had addressed.
“The commission is very happy that it is only House of Assembly election that will hold in the state on April 11 and the task will not be cumbersome.
“Some of the mistakes recorded in the use of the card reader have been addressed and the ad hoc workers have been reminded of what to do to forestall avoidable mistakes.
“The commission has also directed ad hoc workers to ensure that the card reader batteries are fully charged before the election and all other logistics problem taken care of.
“These plans include generators at Registration Area Centres (RACs) where card readers are expected to be charged, workers to arrive on time and electoral materials to be handy,’’ he said.
The REC advised the electorate to contact Electoral Officers immediately the need arose so that issues could be given prompt attention.
He assured that adequate security would be provided for the polls, especially for the protection of INEC officials and materials.
“Human and vehicular movement will be restrained from midnight of March 10 to ensure adequate security,’’ he added.
