2015, Ondo’s Agric Year – Commissioner
In a bid to encourage the
participation of youths in agriculture, the Ondo State government has revealed its intention to make the sector more attractive.
This was disclosed by the State’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Prince Oluboyo, during an exclusive chat with The Tide source recently.
He stated that the state government views agriculture as an efficient tool in reducing poverty and boosting economic growth in the state, thus taking a huge step closer to meeting the Millennium Development Goals.
According to him, Ondo State has declared 2015 an “agricultural year” while identifying land acquisition and land preparation as the major hindrance facing the agricultural sector in Nigeria.
The agric boss further stated that these challenging areas are very important and once a solution was found, every other problem would be over.
“We want to make sure that unemployed youths are initiated into mechanised farming and promotion of security is achieved and agriculture positioned as a medium of providing raw materials to agro allied industries,” he said.
The commissioner paid tribute to the state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, for his passion for agriculture while calling on the people of the state to cooperate with the administration in its quest to make Ondo State the pride of Nigeria’s agriculture.
The commissioner explained that the state government decided to declare 2015 a year for agriculture due to the aggressive approach given to the sector in the past year.
