The Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi has urged Rivers people to shun politics of ethnicity and religious sentiments and vote for only the right candidates in the March 28 and April 11, 2015 general elections.
Amaechi, who was speaking at the 27th convocation ceremony of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, urged the people not to cast their votes for the wrong persons all in the name of “my brother”, adding that they should vote massively for all APC candidates at all levels.
He stated that his administration could be measured by the level of achievement and success recorded by the institution, while also lauding the efforts of the vice chancellor for transforming the school in such a short time.
The governor said Rivers people would then appreciate his administration after he had left office, and wished the graduards well in their future endeavors.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of RSUST, Prof Barineme Fakae, said the institution was turning in a total of 5,600 graduands who have been conferred with various degrees and were highly skilled to compete globally.
He lauded the support of Governor Amaechi in ensuring that the university was rated the best state university in the country.
Fakae said, that the university was the first educational institution to deploy multiboard-based training system as well as the first institution to issue certificates and transcripts on graduation days and also the first university to remain the reigning European Assembly (EBA) best regional university Award winner from 2013-2018
The VC further noted that the 27th convocation ceremony was a unique one as it marked the end of his last tenure as the vc, adding that it was the first time three of its professors have been appointed emeritus professors.
Earlier, the Pro Chancellor of the university, Hon Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte on behalf of the governing council, thanked Governor Chibuike Amaechi for bringing back the institution to its present state, and for providing the needed support to take RSUST to greater heights.
He charged the graduands to conduct themselves in the manner that is befitting of the institution.
The ceremony witnessed the conferment of Emeritus Professor on Prof Dagogo Michael Jim Fubara, Prof Steven Timipa Odi-Owei and Prof Augustine Ikechukwu Ahiauzu for their outstanding performance in impacting knowledge in their various fields.
