Speaker Gives Legislative Scorecard
Vying for legislative
positions should be considered as serious business and should be contested for by serious minded people.
This was stated by Rt. Hon. Jacob Otu-Enyia, member representing Boki II and Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, when he had a chat with journalists shortly after the budget defence of Ministries, Departments and Agencies at the chambers of the Cross River State House of Assembly in Calabar.
Dr. Enyia called on Cross Riverians to encourage persons who represent them at the three tiers of the legislature by being supportive of their efforts.
Otu Enyia who is currently Deputy Director in charge of Auditing in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organization, called on politicians to imbibe the culture of hard work and shun self aggrandizement.
He advised that the electorates should go for persons who are engaged in one business or the other to be their leaders and not those who seek political offices as a source of employment.
Speaking on the debt profile of the State, Dr. Enyia maintained that it was within manageable limits and it was being serviced as at when due, adding, that for that reason, banks were willing to do business with Cross River State Government.
He said the debt burden on Cross River State was inherited largely from the administration of the past Governor of the State, Mr. Donald Duke.
On payment of salaries of Civil Servants which delayed for over a month, Enyia said Governor Liyel Imoke should be commended as other States that received higher Federal allocations owed civil servants for as much as three months.
