Sharks FC Pips Akwa Utd 1-0 …Wants Return To Own Stadium
Despite securing their first
maximum points of the season at the weekend at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt, Sharks FC seems not to be happy with the venue and is seeking return to its own home ground, Sharks FC Stadium.
Speaking shortly after overcoming visiting Akwa United 1-0, Sharks Chief Coach, Dabo-Ere Dokubo, said that the team was not comfortable playing outside its traditional home ground.
The game was a week three fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL (Glo League) and one that was keenly contested.
According to Dokubo, though they won, they still prefer Sharks’ traditional home ground (Sharks Stadium).
“I am not comfortable playing at the Liberation Stadium because the fans and terrain are quite different from our environment.”
“Even though the Liberation Stadium is in Port Harcourt, it is like playing away. You and I know that nobody will be comfortable playing outside his home ground,” Dokubo said.
Also speaking, the head coach of Akwa United, Zachary Baraje attributed his team’s loss to the fact that he was yet to internalise his philosophy in the team and having not had enough time with the squad. According to him, he joined the club barely three weeks to the commencement of the season.
He said that there were some players they were supposed to have recruited but could not due to time factor. He is however determined to make use of what he has for now.
“I know that one thing that is responsible for the poor start of the club is that I reported to the club late.
“It was barely three weeks before the commencement of the league. But I know we will get it right very soon,” Baraje said.
