RSG To Commission RSNC Rotary Machine, NUJ Complex Next Month
Rivers State Government has stated its readiness to commission and handover a multi-million Naira Goss Community Rotary Machine to the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC) before the Chibuike Amaechi administration winds down on May 29, 2015.
The contractor handling the site preparation had last Monday, promised to deliver the job by the end of March.
The state government also announced its readiness to incorporate the commissioning into its scheduled inauguration of completed projects, including the ultra-modern secretariat complex of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Port Harcourt, among others, across the state.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and communications, Mr. Sam Woka, announced this Monday during a familiarization visit and inspection of facilities at Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC) in Port Harcourt.
The Permanent Secretary, who inspected all sections of the Corporation and the site for the new Goss Community Rotary Machine as well as the new NUJ Secretariat under construction, tasked the contractors handling the projects to fast-track work on them, saying that, the present administration has limited time left to commission the projects.
He said, all projects of the administration, particularly those under the ministry would be duly commissioned and handed over to the beneficiaries before the expiration of the administration’s tenure.
The over N300 million Rotary machine was successfully delivered to the corporation early last December by the government of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in the state.
The Permanent Secretary explained that the government successfully delivered the Rotary machine as part of its commitment to make The Tide a commercially competitive newspaper in the country.
He charged the management and staff to make good use of the government gesture to ensure that, the only state print media organ excelled in its mandate to propagate the policies and programmes of the government while promoting and protecting the interest of Rivers people.
He used the opportunity to task journalists in The Tide on code of conduct and dressing, saying that journalists represent the image of the corporation.
He also tasked journalists to engage more in investigative journalism to fight corruption and expose evils in the society.
Woka further urged journalists not to compromise the profession with any inducements, saying that such will defile the ethics of the profession.
The General Manager, Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), Mr. Celestine Ogolo, who led the permanent secretary on the inspection visit, expressed gratitude for the government support to the corporation’s developments.
He commended the ministry for its commitment to ensure the corporation took delivery of the Rotary machine, which he said would add more value and make production easier.
