The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Dr Dakuku Peterside,  has promised to build a  Health City in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital that would serve as a specialist medical centre and tourism facility.
Peterside disclosed this when he visited students of Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology (RIVCOHTECH) in Port Harcourt.
He said the health city would be a conglomeration of specialist clinics located on one side with five star hotel and shopping mall.
“We will collaborate with Port Harcourt Health City to offer specialist training to students from RIVCOHTECH to ensure that you are well trained to have international employment offer.
“As health students, you are very critical to the health care sector and society, and as such, must have the best training that will sell you internationally,” he said.
Peterside said that health workers were very important because they assist in tackling health challenges and improve the quality of living of the people.
He said lack of professional health workers, poor facilities and equipment were some of the major factors that made the health sector not to work optimally.
“Government must focus on providing the right infrastructure, conducive environment for learning, train your teachers and improve on their welfare,” he said.
Peterside said if the teachers were not well trained and cared for, they would not impact the right knowledge.
He assured them that the college library would be stocked with books and every material needed for instruction provided.
“I will ensure that courses offered in the college have national and international accreditation, this I will do because I am one of you as a medical laboratory scientist,” he said.
Peterside said employment opportunities would be created for them to be engaged after graduation.
