PDP Floats Body To Shore Up Image
Worried over its poor
image and perception by many Nigerians, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has floated a body called “ PDP Reloaded”, to recreate itself in the minds of voters.
Coordinator of the group, Mr. Ralph Hart while speaking in a phone programme organized by Silverbird Communications Port Harcourt, at the weekend said the body had already commenced efforts to raise the dwindling profile of the party.
Mr. Hart submitted that the current opposition against the PDP was expected following the formation of a mega opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) adding that “it tells well of our democracy and that democracy is deepening in Nigeria and it’s a welcome development.
“The PDP Reloaded” coordinator in Rivers State admitted that the APC had been able to beat the PDP in buying the hearts of voters as a result various communication it adopted to reach the populace.
Mr. Hart disagreed that PDP symbolizes violence, thuggery and election rigging saying, “the truth is that within the electorate, we have different classes of people and it’s very untypical for a Rivers man to be involved in electoral violence. Some people are misled to go down the path of violence”.
As a way of achieving its aim of recreating the image of the party, he disclosed that group had began to reach out to professional, students, market women, who already understand of what it means to get involved.
While accusing the APC of promoting progaganda against the PDP, Mr. Hart argued that the party had many saleable programmes such as the Transformation Agenda of President Jonathan, the SURE-P and “YOU-WIN” for youths empowerment.
He blamed the PDP for failing to publicise most of its programmes saying that gave room to the opposition to cash in and batter the image of the party.
Hart added, “everybody knows this is the time for elections and so many stories are made out. I know there have been isolated cases here and there, but not as exaggerated by the APC”.
Hart further stated that the body was formed in 2013 to provide platform for young politicians to participate in the transformation and development of the party and Nigeria as a whole.
