The National Union
of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has decried the level of traffic  gridlock along Apapa  Wharf Road, Lagos.
Speaking to newsmen , South-West Chairman of the union, Comrade Tokunbo Korodo, said the traffic  gridlock was  impeding the loading of petroleum products from the Apapa depots.
Korodo  said that the poor  management of available parking  space by Tanker  drivers might lead to mother crisis in the sector.
He said the union has called  the attention of the Lagos State Traffic  maintenance Agency  (LASTMA) to the problem.
The Union boss  explained that LASTMA officials  had assured the tanker drivers that they will be relocated to a new  parking bay to ease the traffic gridlock.
He said the gridlock is caused by the scarcity of petrol and the scrambling of the union members  to position their trucks nearer  the source of supply.
Okorodo emphasised that if members of the union continue to receive  supply from the depot the gridlock  will eventually reduce, stressing that the union appeals to road users to tolerate the union’s trucks until the situation improve.
He said members of the union will continue to load petroleum  products from the depot and promptly  discharge  such products without hoarding petroleum products.
