The Nigeria Union of Lo
cal Government Employees (NULGE), Ebonyi State branch, says it will introduce a cooperative scheme to foster development in the system and protect workers’ interest.
Mr Leonard Nkah, State President of NULGE, said in an interview with newsmen that the scheme was a unique approach to assist the credit needs of workers.
He said the scheme would increase effective development in the system.
According to him, it is unfair that workers have to queue for a long period in banks to access credit facility and at the end of the day would only get not much with high interests and other hidden charges.
“Cooperative scheme is one major and unique approach which will be introduced soon to help protect workers interest and fast-track development in the system.
“Workers in high spirit work effectively when their credit needs are met and we are moved to start this scheme because most time they queue for so long to get credit facility.
“As long as we are sure that their salaries will be payed at the end of the months, we will make sure they no longer queue in banks to get credit facility.”
He said the loan scheme was a major way put up by NULGE to accomplish workers’ needs and welfare.
Nkah also said NULGE had responded to the issue of retirees by establishing pension desk office and assigning an officer to assist members and to ensure that their needs were met.
He added that the desk officer would help retired people who were unable to resolve their problems and help them live a good life.
He said NULGE had formed various committees to fast-track development, welfare needs of the state executive council as well as payment of those who retired two years ago.
“We have the funds now and will inaugurate a special committee to help collect relevant information and draw up schedule for payment,” he added
He, however, noted that delay in payment of salaries when due had been a recurring situation and therefore urged the relevant authorities to assist in the matter.
