NECA Boss Tasks NLC On Rescheduled Poll
The Nigeria Labour
Congress (NLC) has been tasked on credible, free and fair election come March 12, on the rescheduled botched delegates conference.
In a press statement released last Wednesday, the Director General of the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), Mr. Segun Oshinowo urged the central labour organisation to work towards redeeming its image in the eyes of employers, Nigerians and international organisations.
Oshinowo said the botched delegates conference has actually cast aspersion on the integrity of the NLC as an umbrella body of organised labour.
He said by the rescheduled delegates election, NLC should get it right stressing that it was the first time that organised labour would act in such manner at any of their gatherings, more so the delegates conference.
The NECA DG said what happened at the 11th delegates conference election has eroded the moral right of the organised labour and indeed NLC to condemn or commend what happens in the larger society, stressing that it was indeed a minus, shameful, embarrassing, ridiculous and a dent on the collective image of the labour movement.
He said some leaders have risen to the challenge to correct the wrong and anomaly, adding that such leaders desired worthy commendation, considering the institution NLC represents in the country.
The NECA boss said the NLC’s shameful act and ugly incidence had recovered during the nation’s preparation for the general election, which the congress leadership had at the opening ceremony of the 11th delegates conference promised to use its election to serve as a model for the nation’s politicians on how to conduct credible, free and fair election, but failed to live up to expectation of such promise.
