NAWOJ Harps On Women’s Voting Right

As the nation chooses
    its leader tomorrow women in Rivers State have been called upon to come out en masse and exercise their political right by acquiring their permanent voter’s card as well as voting during the Nigerian general elections.
Chairman of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists in Rivers State, Mrs.  Lilian Okonkwo, made the call during a road walk organised by the state branch of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalist to commemorate the International Women’s  Day in Port Harcourt last week.
Addressing newsmen during the road walk, Mrs. Okonkwo called on women in Rivers State not to sit at home but go out and choose their leaders through their vote, stating that the era when women stay at home during elections is over, now their votes must count.
Also speaking, the director of women affairs Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Rivers State, warned women against handing over their PVCs to their husbands and sons.
