Group Tasks Traders On PVC Collection
The Rivers State branch of
Pillars of Association has canvassed for the active participation of its members in the on-going collection of permanent voters cards.
State President of the association, Comrade Emeka Onyekwum who said this at a meeting of the Association in Port Harcourt also urged incoming administrations in the state to address the issue of multiple taxation in the state.
Comrade Onyekwum also said that the association would not adopt any candidate for the forth-coming general elections both at the state and national levels.
He said that the permanent voters’ cards would enable the members to vote for candidates of their choice in the March 28 and April 14, 2015 general elections.
Comrade Emeka Onyekwum noted that the end of their meeting in Port Harcourt that the association contributes more than 40 percent to the state economy.
According to him, multiple taxations such as sanitation levies, illegal structure fees being imposed by the Ministry of Urban Development and the sampling and projection fees as well as other levies being charged by local government councils are affecting members of the association.
He pointed out that the association is not a tax collection agent to any arm of government stressing that the association would continue to maintain its excellent relationship with the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS) and other agents of the government.
Comrade Onyekwum used the occasion to call on Chairmen of the various affiliate unions of the association to continue to interact with their members to ensure laws and order.
According to him the pillars day which holds later in the year, will be used to intimate the general public on what the Association represents and its contributions to the economy of the state.
Pillars of Association has over 85 registered trade unions as members.
