Group Tasks Security Agencies On Neutrality
A Non-Governmen
tal Organisation (NGO), the Otonti Nduka Foundation for Valued Education has called on security agencies across the country, especially in Rivers State to be neutral in their responsibilities during the forthcoming general elections.
The chairman, Board of Trustee of the group, Emeritus Prof, Otonti Nduka, made this call during a press briefing organised by the group held at the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Port Harcourt study centre, Monday, Prof Nduka opined that the call became imperative, following several reports across the state, of accusing the security agencies especially the police of their partiality in the political processes in the state.
He urged them to live up to their constitutional responsibilities by ensuring that all citizens were given equal protections during and after the elections in the state.
The chairman averred that the society lives up to their responsibilities, adding that their impartiality role would promote the needed free and fair elections.
He expressed fears that the election maybe violent, if proper measures are not taken into consideration, adding that the security agencies must rise above the challenges at the moment.
Prof Otonti Nduka disclosed that the foundation would continue to revertilise the moral fibre of all segments of the society by inculcating positive values and attitudes that are fast degenerating.
He however, accused politicians of being responsible for carrying the security operatives to compromise in their duties, with a view to carry favours from them as well as to deal with their opponents.
