Group Charges New CTC Boss On Security
The Association of
Etche Ethnic Practising Journalists has urged the new Caretaker Committee (CTC) in the area headed by Hon Charles Anyanwu to make security a priority in his administration.
A statement by the secretary of the organization, Mr Amadi Akujobi Samuel described security as a major challenge facing the local government at the moment.
Mr Amadi noted that the problem which could be liked to as a politicallt motivated one, urged the new CTC boss and his team to ensure that the problem was solved.
According to the secretary, the local government was to large for a few people in the disguise of any cult group to hold the area under siege for a longer period adding that the re-emergence of the Dey-Gbam and Dey-Well cult groups during the election period has become a source of concern to many.
The groups secretary listed Obibi, Okehi, Igbodo, Akwukabi and Ulakwo as major communities affected by the activities of these cult groups in recent time noting that their activities have claimed the lives of many and destroyed properties worth millions.
The statement however, commended the efforts of the past administration led by Barr Reginald Ukwuoma, as well as the security operatives for their efforts in ensuring that the cultists were check mated in their operations and urged the present government in the area to sustain the security arrangement made by his predecessor.
He described the kidnapping of people and careless brandishing of gun by the cultists as a total embarrassment to Etche identity and culture noting that most roads in the area have been abandoned by people due to fear of attack by these cultists.
The statement used the opportunity to congratulate the CTC Chairman and his team and urged them to live up to their civic responsibility to the people which is security of life and property.
