Group Cautions Against Demonisation Of Info Commissioner
A socio-cultural
organisation in Okrika nation, Generation for Peace in Wakirike, has called for immediate halt to ongoing demonization of Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications and Director of Communications, Greater Together Campaign Organisation.
The group, which membership cuts across the two Wakirike councils of Okrika and Ogu/Bolo, therefore, condemned comments and actions that presented Mrs. Semenitari as disrespectful to Okrika culture and tradition.
The body described as “anti-peace” allusions that the Honourable Commissioner and spokesperson for the Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside campaign organisation, spoke ill of Mrs. Patience Jonathan at the APC rally.
“Such comments do not promote peace and are meant to call a dog a bad name to kill it since there are no records or proofs that Mrs. Semenitari ever mentioned Mrs. Jonathan in her speech”.
In a statement signed by Dr. Franklin Ibifuro and Chief Ebenezer Ameyieofori, Chairman and Secretary, respectively, of Generation For Peace In Wakirike cautioned against heating up the fragile security situation in Okrika and Ogu/Bolo.
“If that is politics, such politicking does not promote development nor would it promote the peace of Okrika”, the group added. While calling for politics devoid of rancour and hate, the group, which asserted that those who claimed Mrs. Semenitari mocked Mrs. Jonathan in her speech, only meant to further divide the Wakirike nation and cautioned against politics of “might-is-right”.
“Having replayed over and over, the record of Mrs. Semenitari’s speech at the APC rally, and having found no link in what she said with what the protesting women and their possible sponsors claimed, we are left to wonder whether another APC rally took place in Okrika at which only Mrs. Semenitari’s accusers were present”, the group asserted.
