Benue State Governor
Gabriel Suswan has condemned the abduction of the Provost, College of Education, Katsina-Ala, Dr. Hon Sanwua by unknown gunmen at his residence.
This is even as the Gboko chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) is sad over the kidnap of one of its members, Mr. Kon Innocent, Proprietor of Kon Adema Nursery and Primary School, Gboko.
In a communiqué jointly signed by its president, Mrs. Salaudeen Tabitha and secretary, Pastor Ikena, the association appealed to the state government to ensure the prompt release of Mr. Innocent, who was kidnapped on March 16 round 8pm at his Gboko residence.
The provost’s abduction sparked off protest by his students who took to the streets.
The protest which began with burning of tyres, degenerated into hooting of property and attacks on individuals, business premises and residential houses, including that of governor Suswan.
In a statement, signed by his Director, Media and Public Affairs, James Uloko, the governor expressed sadness that such criminality, which his administration had labored so hard to stamp out in the state, had reared its ugly head again.
The governor condemned the provost’s abduction described, Dr. Sanwua, a harmless and hardworking administrator who has devoted his life to the education of our youths for the greater future of society.
While thanking God for his release, Governor Suswan, however, vowed to mobilize security agencies to ensure that his abductors were brought to book.
Suswan also commended the security agencies for their prompt and swift response which resulted to the safe release of the provost and called them to redouble their effort in protecting lives and property especially now that the general election are around the corner.
