Some communities in
Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State have raised alarm over what they described as serial attacks by cult groups in the area even  as they called on government to make concerted efforts in arresting the situation.
The communities under constant  attacks by the cult groups (Dey-gham and Dey-well) are Obibi, Ikem, Okehi, Umuokom, Igbodo among others.
In an interview with The Tide at the weekend, the spokesperson of the affected  communities under the aegis  of Concerned Etche Communities, Comrade  Abbadike  Umunakwe, urged  the security  operatives operating in the area especially men of SARS to  be more effective  in confronting the cultists.
Comrade Agbadike averred that no day passes in Okehi clan without any person being killed by these groups, adding that many communities have been abandoned by their inhabitants due to fear of attack by these boys.
He wondered why these groups   whose  bases  are at Okehi and Obibi cannot be dismantled by the security operatives to  free Etche people from the continued  hostage  by these groups.
He called on the Inspector -General of Police, Assistant  Inspector-General Zone 6 and the state commissioner of police to establish a Special Police Enforcement Squad in the area with the responsibility to curbing the excesses of these hoodlums.
The youth activist opined that Etche  people cannot continue to live in a state of hostage orchestrated by  the activities of  outlaws, noting that government at all levels must  take the  bull by the horn to ensure   that  the people  of the area are liberated from the operations of the boys.
