Ebonyi Gets New High Court Judge

    Elechi of Ebonyi State yesterday swore in a new judge of the state High Court, Justice Chelma Achom.
The new judge, until her elevation was a Chief Magistrate in the state’s judiciary.
While swearing in the new judge at the Eno Chambers of Government House, Abakaliki, Elechi prayed God to grant her the grace to work according to His will not as human beings describing humans as fickle minded.
He noted that the judicial system was witnessing steady growth like other judicial arms of government.
He told the new judge that her position as a judge was a critical one which would compel her to take difficult but necessary decisions.
Elechi said the government could not guarantee 35 per cent affirmative action for one judiciary because of the rigours  involved unlike political system, saying “there are rules and traditions that must be adherred to strictly”.
He charged the new judge to discharge her duty without fear or favour and pledged to continue to assist the judiciary when the need arose.
Justice Achom in her remark thanked Elechi and the state government for finding her worthy and promised to discharge her duties diligently.
Earlier, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Ben Igwenyi said Achom was elevated because of her track records.
He explained that the appointment of the new judge was to fill the vacancy created by the elevation of one of the state High Court of Appeal Calabar.
