Published

on

A Port Harcourt
based legal practitioner, Barr. Chijoke Agi has described the closure of courts in Rivers State as a harrowing experience.
Barr. Agi, who stated this while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt on Monday, noted that it was pathetic and unheard of.
He said the long closure of courts had been unprecedented in the history of Nigeria, not even in the era of the military.
The Port Harcourt lawyers lamented that lawyers were finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet.
He told Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria to end the strike quickly so that lawyers could return to work.
Barr. Agi explained that the closure of courts had sabotaged our democracy and made matters worse for litigants who want to ventilate their grievances.
He called stakeholders to join hands to ensure the courts are re-opened for the good of our democracy.
Barr. Agi stated that judges and magistrates would have an uphill task when the courts resumed.
