Attacks On Clubs: GM Calls For Protection For Dolphins, Sharks
Following the recent attacks on coaches and players of both Sharks and Dolphins FCs by unknown gunmen in Port Harcourt the General Manager of Dolphins, Joe Johnson has called on security agents to provide better services to ensure the safety of the clubs.
He said that the football clubs need adequate security to enable them concentrate and focus on their games saying that attacks on them will do more harm than good to the entire state.
Johnson stated these through the club’s media officer, China Acheru which was made available to Tidesports.
According to him, if the security of life and property of players and coaches are not guaranteed, it will definitely affect their training and matches.
“We recalled that just about a week ago, the coach of Sharks FC, Gbenga Ogunbote was attacked by unknown gunmen, an incident that left him hospitalized for five days.
Sharks captain, Odinga Odinga was also a victim of the attack as he was reportedly physically assaulted by the gunmen as he tried to intervene to save his coach.
Till date his attackers were yet to be identified or apprehended.
“Recently our own coach, Stanley Eguma escaped from the hands of armed young men at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt, just as the team was rounding off a training session and this is not a cheering news at all:, Johnson said.
While coach Eguma was able to attend the opening match of the season last weekend, Ogunbote was conspicuously absent, having not fully recovered from his ordeal.
Tidesports fathered that some group who see themselves as stakeholders in the two clubs and not happy that their interests were not satisfied in recruitment of players may have been responsible for the attacks.
Surprisingly, not many people, including players and members of supporters club were willing to comment on the incident or those that might have been involved.
