Windstorm Wreaks Havoc In Etche Communities
The people of Mba
community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State are counting their losses following a windstorm that destroyed a large number of economic trees in the area.
Plantains, mangoes, pears and cocoanut tree were amongst the economic trees mostly destroyed.
Our reporter who visited the area said some of the fallen trees also touched some houses thereby extending the damage.
Speaking to The Tide yesterday at Okudu Mba, one of the victims, who identified herself as Eunice Amaefule said the windstorm destroyed over 75 per cent of the plantains in her plantation.
Amaefule who is a widow said, “the plantation is the major property left for the family by my husband”, adding that the incident has increased her woes.
Apart from Mba town, other communities as Afara, Akpoku and Ndashi also experienced similar damage though not as serious as the havoc wreaked at Mba.
At Afara community, Mr Anele Nwafor who said he lost over four Mango trees remarked that one of the trees almost destroyed the family’s main building.
