Rumuochiolu Village in Eneka, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Vincent Uche Wali has raised alarm over threat to his life by some members of his family
In an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt over the weekend, Chief Wali said he incurred the wrath of his family because of his refusal to allow them forcefully enter to his landed properties and his late father’s properties that were given to him.
He alleged that his nephews fathers sisters who were married outside their community demolished his building and erected a new one, adding that in Ikwerre customs and traditions, a woman married outside does not have any right in the properties of their fathers like their male counterparts.
“I went to my fathers old compound and discovered that the old building has been demolished by my nephews, when I approached them, they vowed to deal with me. All these women are not even born by my father direct rather they claimed that their mother was not legally married, so they have right in the family properties.”
They insulted and humiliated me and threatened to kill me if I don’t leave them alone” he stated. Chief Wali, one time aspirant to the Obio/Akpor Constituency II seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleged that his nephews were acting under the directive of Assistant Commissioner of Police serving in Cross River State and added that he had reported the matter to Eneka Police Station for the arrest and stoppage of the on-going work in the area.
He called on the security agencies, the police, the military to step in and take actions and ensure that his life was protected going by the threat to his life.
