A stalwart of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) and member of the Elders Forum of the party in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Sydney Nyeche, has predicted that the governorship candidate of the party, Dr. Dakuku Peterside would win the governorship election in the State.
Chief Nyeche based his prediction on the political indices on ground in the state, coupled with what he called the amiable personality and pedigree of the party’s governorship candidate.
Chief Nyeche who made the assertion in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, said there was no doubt that the APC governorship candidate would beat his main rival, Chief Nyesome Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 28, 2015 governorship election.
According to him, majority of Ikwere people were in support of the candidature of Dr. Peterside, even though the PDP candidate is from Ikwerre ethnic nationality.
The APC chieftain noted that the Ikwerre people were not selfish and greedy with political power, having had their turn of governing the state for eight years.
He argued that the mammoth crowd that recently graced APC presidential and governorship campaign rallies in the state was a strong indication that the state was  set for a change, as championed by Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
He said APC members were going to resist any attempt by the PDP to rig or manipulate the forthcoming elections in the state , adding that it was incumbent on all voters to turn out en-masse and vote for candidates of their choice during elections without fear of being intimidated.
While condemning attacks on APC supporters in some parts of the state and the bombing of the party’s facilities, Chief Nyeche said the incidents were acts of desperation by those who were incapable of winning elections.
He, therefore, appealed to security agencies in the state, particularly the police to be alive to their duties by remaining impartial in order to protect voters and INEC officials during the forthcoming elections, stressing that this was necessary because no individual or political party had a monopoly of violence.
