‘President’s Cup ’ll Foster Unity’

Oyo State on Thursday said the National U-16 President’s Cup would promote unity and identification of grassroots potential in the country.
They made the assertion while speaking with The Tidesports in Akure.
A Director in the Oyo State Football Agency, Mr. Gboyega Lawal, said the final of the South-West zone of the competition would soon hold.
Lawal said the tournament would foster unity among youths. “We need more of this kind of tournament, the championship has achieved it’s aim on unity and discovery of young talents in all nooks and crannies of the country”, he said.
The Tidesports reports that team Ondo pipped Osun by a lone goal, while Oyo defeated Lagos by 4-2 on penalties after playing a 2-2 in regulation time.
Head Coach, Oyo State Football Agency, Mr. Adebola Amuda, commended the officiating and method of discovery of talents in the competition.
Amuda noted that if such fairness in officiating continues in our major competitions, real talents would emerge and Nigeria would have more referees officiating in international tournaments.
“I think the competition is not bad and with what we have seen they will perform well in Abuja and the officiating is excellent Kudos to them”, he said.
The Tidesports also reports that Oyo and Lagos States, after taking the lead with highest points, qualified for the first edition of the competition and would represent South-West.
