Following the recent
attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Okrika Local Government Area and other political crisis in Rivers State, the police authorities said it has embarked on a stop and search operations in Okrika and parts of the state.
The Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police Zone 6, Tunde Ogunsakin gave this directive following the report of the APC botched campaign rally in Okrika Local Government Area recently which claimed the life of a serving police officer and left three others on a critical situation.
Ogunsakin said the directive became very imperative following the increase in the movement of illegal arms in the society as well as to ensure that peace and harmony thrive in the state during and after the general elections.
According to him, the operation was intended to ensure that the illegal fire arms that are in the wrong hands were recovered and ensure a safe stop And Search  environment for all in the state.
He urged security men to be vigilant in the and search stop routine exercise and ensure that any found culpable is arrested.
The AIG Zone Six used the opportunity to call on all the political gladiators in the state to play the game by the rule and ensure that absolute peace was attained in the society and warned that the police and other security operatives would deal decisively with any group or individual found wanting.
He regretted that the police lost one of her officer and others injured during the mayhem at the APC rally in Okrika even as he commiserated with the affected family and the injured officers.
