The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker has denied the allegation by the state Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Walter Ibiba that the violent attack on APC governorship rally in Okrika was a result of power tussle between him and another person.
Parker, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, described the allegation as spurious and libelous, saying that Walter was known to most people in Okrika as a man without character.
“I have known Walter for a long time. I would not ordinarily respond to his fables, but it appears Walter’s voice was speaking the words of his master, Barr. Nyesom Wike , the governorship candidate of the PDP.
“Walter is known to most people in Okrika as a man without character whose stock in trade is to fill his stomach, even if it means dinning with the devil, by peddling lies.
“For the avoidance of doubt and the sake of posterity, I state categorically that I had noting to do with the violence in Okrika. Every Okrika man or woman, and indeed, Rivers people, know that I am a man who abhors violence and would go to any length to achieve peace.
“I state, as I have done often: Power belongs to God and He gives to whom it pleases Him to bless”, he said.
I would be recalled that the APC governorship rally on Tuesday in Okrika was disrupted by gunmen, resulting in the death of a policeman with several others injured.
