‘Onne Customs Generates Over N97bn

ria Customs Service (NCS), Port Harourt Area II, Onne Port Rivers State, Deputy Comptroller Hamzat Gummi, has disclosed that the Command generated a sum of N96,707, 581,388.65 as revenue in the year 2014.
Gummi made this known at the first stakeholders meeting of the year 2015 at the Command’s conference room in Onne, Rivers State, recently.
He said the command in the corresponding year of 2013, raked in the sum of N85,084,452,311.99 as revenue to the federal government, adding that the feat was achieved due to the collective effort of the officers and men of the command as well as ever reliable stakeholders in the sector, and enjoined them to keep up the spirit.
The Onne Area Controller of Customs enjoined the stakeholders to avoid any sharp practices that could lead to delay in clearing procedures of their goods, stressing that they should also shun any act of wrong or under declaration of their imports and classification, while assuring that the command would always ensure that the right thing is done.
Gummi, however, warned that the command would deal with any one caught in the act of smuggling as the customs intelligence unit and federal operation Unit are on ground to ensure strict compliance to the laid down procedures.
Meanwhile, The Tide correspondent gathered that the command now has new Common External Tariff (CET) that contained information that would be implemented to the letter in line with the fiscal policy of the federal government, and that all stakeholders including agents should ensure they use the opportunity to access the e-CET.
It was also learnt that the command also acquired a Gantry scanner which has a capacity to scan 250 containers daily and should be utilized fully to also ensure that all wet homogeneous goods and cargoes be examined through scanning for speedy clearing of goods at the Port.
The meeting was attended by members of the Association of Nigeria Licenced Customs Agents (ANLCA), National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), among others.
