Nigerian Wins Grammy Award …As Chimamanda Adiche Loses Out
A Nigerian for the first
time has emerged a Grammy Award winner. His name is Kelvin Olusola who went home with the award for best arrangement in instrumental or Acapela.
Kelvin picked up the award alongside his acapela band at the biggest annual music awards, the Grammys at its 57th edition held on Sunday, February 9th 2015, at the Staples Centre in los Angelis Carlifornia. And guess what, a Nigerian went home with an award for the first time at the Grammys.
Born in the in United States of America to a Nigerian father and a Grenadian mother, Kelvin, a 26 year old beat boxer and also a graduate of the prestigious Ivy League College, Yale University, from where he graduated in 2011 with a degree in East Assian studies is not just a musician, he is super smart too. He also plays the cello, piano and saxophone; he speaks fluent Chinese and Spanish.
Meanwhile, the famous author of “Half of a Yellow Sun,” Chimamanda Adiche, earned her first Grammy nomination, but she missed out being awarded her first Grammy for her work on Beyonce’s platinum selling single ‘flawless’. Though Beyonce was able to bag three awards, surround sound album, RnB performance and RnB song.
Eminem won the award for best rap album, the martial masters LP2 and Sam Smith won song and record of the year for ‘Stay With Me’ at the 2015 awards alongside Pharrep and Beyonce.
