New Rivers CTCs Vow To Ensure Peaceful Polls
A new set of Caretaker Committee (CTC) members in 21 local government areas screened by the Rivers State House of Assembly have pledged to ensure peaceful polls in their domains.
Some of them who bared their minds to The Tide shortly after being grilled by the state legislators yesterday, said their major focus is to ensure peaceful polls and victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.
The new CTC members are expected to be sworn-in by the Governor, Chibuike Amaechi once he returns from a national assignment outside the state.
Comrade Loveday Jaja of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area while expressing happiness for being appointed to serve his people, disclosed that his focus would be to maintain the peace of the area.
Lauding the people of the area for being law abiding and peaceful Comrade Jaja urged them “ to remain peaceful in the face of provocation” as he promised to embark on massive empowerment programmes that reduce the plight of citizens.
He also promised to roll out programmes that would encompass all persons as way of bringing succour to the riverine communities in the area.
On his part, re-appointed chairman of Port Harcourt City Council, Nnamdi Wuche promised to provide conducive atmosphere for elections, adding, “ordinarily we should have peaceful elections to elect credible and service-oriented leaders”.
Wuche promised to work with security agencies to ensure that the citizens were provided good security during and after the elections.
On the delay over the commencement of work on the Phase 2 of the Mile 1 market project , Wuche revealed that the contract for the market has been signed, assuring that work would soon commence on site.
Incoming Akuku-Toru CTC Chairman, Fenibo Jack harped on the strengthening of security in the area.
In his words, “we are going to surpass achievements of the previous administration on security.”
Jack believed that improved security would ensure victory for the APC in Akulga.
