NERC Issues Licence For 500 MW Power From Coal

The Nigerian Electricity
Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued licence  for the generation of 500 mw of electricity from coal in Gombe State.
The licence which was issued to Trombay Power Generation Limited is to be located at Wajari Village along Dadinkowa Road in Yamaltu Local Government Area of the state.
Chairman of NERC, Dr Sam Amadi, said at the handover ceremony in Abuja, Thursday, that it is part of efforts to increase energy sources and emphasised  the importance  of coal in the nation’s efforts to exploit other energy avenues.
Amadi, who commended the company for the patience exhibited while the application passed through  the necessary  processes, noted that in the nation’s efforts to diversify power sources, coal remains strategic.
He said,” I hope you will follow through your  timeliness in constructing your power plant with the same  dedication you displayed in the course of this application”.
The Commissioner, Legal Licensing and Enforcement, Dr Steven Andzenge described the license as remarkable  and remarked  that it is a mile-stone  in the sense that, it is in line with the commission’s objective of diversifying our fuel sources”.
Group President  of Trombay Power Generation Limited, Jitendes Kumar Sachdeva commended the commission for its transparency  and commitment in processing the application.
He said, “I  am glad to receive this licence. The commission is a truly transparent and smart regulatory agency.”
