The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Internal Security, Hon. Aliyu Gebi has described governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, as a consummate legislator and fine gentleman who will be greatly missed by his colleagues in the 8th Assembly which begins in May.
Gebi, who represents Bauchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was among members of the lower chamber who paid a solidarity and condolence visit to Peterside in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital over the attack on APC in Okrika during a rally last week.
According to Gebi, the National Assembly will never be the same again without the presence of Peterside.
“We will miss your friendship, elocution, vibrancy and astuteness. I know all of us in the House will also miss the intellectual slant you bring to issues, both in and outside the chambers. If you look around, you will notice the verve in young leaders like Peterside who are highly educated, exposed and ready to drive governance even at the highest level. Therefore, leaders in Nigeria should stop giving excuses because we have indeed, come of age.
“In Peterside, I also see hope, not just for people of his state but for our country. You will agree with me that a few states are today model states by the actions of their governors. Our country will surely get better if as citizens, we support only candidates with the necessary competences and temperament. As a people, we must all rise up and resolve to banish all forms of sentiments, whether religious or ethnic at every election. That is the only way we can save our country and make progress”, he said.
